I'm very pleased with this pre/eq. I've used it with snare & kick, female & male vocals and elec. guitar. Everything sounded excellent, crisp, warm, full range with and without and color when adjusted for my desires. I've inserted a vintage RANE DC24 compressor into the unit and the combination gives me a huge range of possibilities'. The unit is quiet and well built with smooth pots/switches. I've used: Warm WA87, SM87, AKG D112 MKII, Golden Age R1-A mic's with this pre and they ALL sounded superb. I've been very pleased with all of the WARM products I use in my studios and highly recommend all of them.

NO way I could afford a Neve. so I started looking around and settled on the WA 273-EQ. I have tracked vocals, bass guitar, and electric guitars. next will be drums. it is from what I understand a Neve 1073 clone. this thing sounds so rich and clean or dirty, all in how drive the front end, I have ben running a high gain distortion pedal into this with the gain cranked pretty high and it sounds great. don't know if I will record through my amp any more, it sounds really good and tight like this. to get the Neve 1073 sound at this price is really cool let alone the inductor EQ. I think any thing you run through this mic pre will up the quality of sound. I used to think the quality of the mic pre's in my allen & heath GL 40 CH board was good until I got this mic pre. this is a game changer, I plan on getting more. BTW the WA 312 is a nice API style mic pre , I have it too. I have recorded through a real Neve 1073 mic pre, an old one and the WA 273-EQ has the same character with out the maintenance and problems. countless mega hits were recorded with the Neve 1073. now its time for us poor guys to record ours. just get one or two. It serves as a great recording front?end and it is great for gentle sound?shaping on the way in.

I've had my WA273-EQ for a little over a year now. I have used it on everything under the sun, and have not found a source it doesn't shine on. I have lots of options at my disposal, including Great River, API, UA, and onboard Allen & Heath pres, but I usually start with my 273 these days. The range is incredible - the lowest of lows and highest of highs, all balanced perfectly - and if you want some grit, it's there as much or as little as you like. I love the output knob, which lets me dial in the right tone, then send it to my comps or to the DAW at just the right level.

All in all, it's been the most used pre in my rack for the past year, and I don't see that changing. I like to use it with my kick drum mics, and use my API for the rest of the drums - which just gives me the best separation between low and mid/punchy tone - I can't say enough good things.

About the ONLY complaint I can come up with, is that the buttons feel a little flimsy. But I've been punching them for a year now, and nothing has gone wrong.

This unit sounds fantastic on all sources. I've used it on drums, bass, guitar, vocals, keys, and brass, all with great results. I've sent tracks recorded on one of these out to a few big-time producers and engineers and have gotten nothing but compliments on the sound. Big thanks to Stuart Niven for the recommendation!
