Music Bliss was proud to join the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) as the Strategic Partner for NSO with Aubrey Suwito – “POP MEETS SYMPHONY”, which took place on 2 and 3 October 2026 at Istana Budaya, Kuala Lumpur.

Bringing together the grandeur of a full symphony orchestra with some of Malaysia’s most recognisable contemporary music, the concert marked the highly anticipated return of the National Symphony Orchestra to the concert stage.

At the centre of the production was renowned Malaysian producer, composer, arranger and musical director Aubrey Suwito, whose decades-long career has played an important role in shaping Malaysia’s modern music landscape.

Joining him and the NSO were three celebrated Malaysian vocalists — Ernie Zakri, Syamel and Shiha Zikir — for two evenings that showed what happens when Malaysian popular music is reimagined on a symphonic scale.

Where Malaysian Pop Met the Symphony

“POP MEETS SYMPHONY” was built around Aubrey Suwito’s musical journey, presenting a selection of music that has inspired him throughout his career alongside memorable songs he has produced and arranged over the years.

Rather than simply presenting these familiar works as audiences already knew them, the concert gave them an entirely new dimension through orchestral arrangements performed by the National Symphony Orchestra.

It was a meeting of two musical worlds: the immediacy and familiarity of contemporary Malaysian popular music combined with the scale, dynamics and expressive possibilities of a symphony orchestra.

For audiences familiar with Aubrey Suwito’s work, it was a chance to revisit important moments from his career in a completely different musical setting. For newer listeners, it was an opportunity to experience the depth and versatility of Malaysian songwriting, arranging and musicianship through the sound of a full orchestra.

A Kawai Grand Piano Took Centre Stage

Music Bliss also contributed directly to the musical production through the sponsorship of a Kawai grand piano, which formed part of the concert’s instrumental ensemble.

Within a symphonic setting, the grand piano can move effortlessly between intimate solo passages, rhythmic accompaniment and powerful orchestral moments — making it particularly fitting for a concert centred on the work of a composer, arranger and producer such as Aubrey Suwito.

Its inclusion also brought together two elements that Music Bliss has long supported: high-quality musical instruments and the musicians who bring those instruments to life.

Celebrating Malaysia’s Musical Heritage

Operating under the National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN), the National Symphony Orchestra has long played an important role in Malaysia’s orchestral and performing arts landscape.

Through concerts and musical productions, the orchestra continues to introduce audiences to the expressive range of symphonic music while contributing to the development and appreciation of orchestral performance in Malaysia.

Its return to the concert stage with Aubrey Suwito, Ernie Zakri, Syamel and Shiha Zikir made “POP MEETS SYMPHONY” more than simply another orchestral concert. It became a celebration of Malaysian music across generations and genres — bringing together composers, musicians, singers and audiences through songs that have become part of the country’s musical story.

Music Bliss Supporting Malaysia’s Music Scene

For Music Bliss, joining “POP MEETS SYMPHONY” as Strategic Partner represented another opportunity to support the musicians, institutions and productions that continue to move Malaysia’s music industry forward.

As a Malaysian music retailer built around the belief of For Musicians, By Musicians, Music Bliss has always seen instruments as only one part of a much larger musical ecosystem. Concerts, performances, composers, arrangers, producers, educators and musicians are ultimately what give those instruments meaning.

Being part of a production such as “POP MEETS SYMPHONY” therefore reflects Music Bliss’ continued commitment to supporting meaningful musical experiences and celebrating the talent found within Malaysia’s music community.

Music Bliss was especially honoured to see a Kawai grand piano become part of the performance, connecting the craftsmanship and expressive character of the instrument with the creativity of some of Malaysia’s most accomplished musicians.

Two Nights at Istana Budaya

NSO with Aubrey Suwito – “POP MEETS SYMPHONY” took place across two nights at Istana Budaya, Kuala Lumpur, on 2 and 3 October 2026.

For everyone who loves Malaysian music and orchestral arrangements, it was a chance to hear familiar songs transformed through the power of a full symphony orchestra, and one of the standout Malaysian musical events of October. Thank you to the NSO, Aubrey Suwito, Ernie Zakri, Syamel, Shiha Zikir and everyone who joined us at Istana Budaya.
