Setting expectations

Everyone moves at their own pace. Progress depends on age, practice time and goals. Your teacher will tell you honestly how you're doing and when you're ready for the next step.

Beginner

Foundation

Play your first notes cleanly, keep steady time and play simple basslines to familiar songs.

Up to Grade 3

Building

Scales and arpeggios, longer songs and playing along with drum tracks.

Grade 4 – 5

Developing

Walking lines, more complex rhythms, reading bass clef and following chord charts.

04

Grade 6 – 8 and beyond

Advanced

Advanced techniques, your own bassline ideas and confident playing in a band.
