Between lessons
Regular practice makes the difference. Your teacher sets a short plan each week, and much of it can be done on a practice pad at home if you don't have a full kit.

Here's what each stage looks like, so you know what to expect before you start.
Setting expectations
Everyone moves at their own pace. Progress depends on age, practice time and goals. Your teacher will tell you honestly how you're doing and when you're ready for the next step.

Beginner
Foundation
Hold the sticks correctly, play basic beats and keep time with a metronome.

Up to Grade 3
Building
More grooves and fills, the core rudiments and playing full songs along with music.

Grade 4 – 5
Developing
Faster rudiments, more independence between limbs and reading drum charts with confidence.
04
Grade 6 – 8 and beyond
Advanced
Advanced grooves and solos, your own style and confident performance with a band.
