Setting expectations
Everyone moves at their own pace. Progress depends on age, practice time and goals. Your teacher will tell you honestly how you're doing and when you're ready for the next step.

Beginner
Foundation
Hold the pick, play your first power chords and simple riffs, and keep steady time. Fingertips may feel sore at first; that passes quickly.

Up to Grade 3
Building
Open and barre chords, basic scales and full songs played with a backing track.
03
Grade 4 – 5
Developing
Lead playing, faster technique, improvising over chord progressions and reading with confidence.
04
Grade 6 – 8 and beyond
Advanced
Advanced techniques, your own style and confident performance with a band or backing tracks.
