One-on-one at our Petaling Jaya academy. Choose a 30, 45 or 60-minute lesson depending on your level.

Posture & hold
Holding the instrument and bow comfortably, for good sound and no strain.

Bowing
Straight bowing, bow distribution and a clear, even sound.

Intonation
Finger placement and listening skills for playing in tune.

Reading music
Reading treble clef for violin, or alto clef for viola.

Technique
Scales, shifting between positions and, later, vibrato.

Pieces matched to your level, played with dynamics and phrasing.

Between lessons
String instruments reward patience. Short, regular practice on your teacher's weekly plan is the best way to build tone and tuning.

Here's what each stage looks like, so you know what to expect before you start.
Setting expectations
Everyone moves at their own pace. Progress depends on age, practice time and goals. Your teacher will tell you honestly how you're doing and when you're ready for the next step.

Beginner
Foundation
Hold the instrument and bow, play open strings with a clear sound and learn your first simple tunes. Early sounds can be scratchy; that's a normal part of learning.

Up to Grade 3
Building
Playing in tune in first position, smoother bowing and short pieces with accompaniment.
03
Grade 4 – 5
Developing
Shifting positions, vibrato, longer pieces and stronger sight-reading.
04
Grade 6 – 8 and beyond
Advanced
Concert repertoire, refined tone and your own interpretation, with a pathway on to diploma level.
